A giant plastic kit of the Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger II with the Henschel turret and a 105 mm gun in 1:16 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. Note - a Tiger II with a 105 mm gun was never built; it is a German late-war project that stayed on paper.
Responsibility details are not available.
An extensive injection-molded plastic kit of the Tiger II heavy tank in 1:16 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The finished model measures roughly 706 mm long and 233 mm wide - that is over seventy centimeters, a truly giant piece for which you have to set space aside in advance. The kit is among the most demanding things built in plastic: it contains a full interior (the engine compartment, the transmission, the fighting compartment and the turret), a metal gun barrel, photo-etched parts and individual track links - no rubber tracks, every link is assembled separately. Count on this not being a weekend project.
The production Tiger II (Königstiger) had the 88 mm KwK 43 gun. A version with a 105 mm gun never came into being. The Krupp company designed it at the end of 1944 as part of studies on rearming German tanks, but it never got further than the drawing board - the gun was not accepted by the army and separate-loading ammunition would have called for another loader, for whom there was no room in an already cramped turret. You are therefore building a machine that never ran. That is an entirely legitimate genre and a popular one among modelers, but you should know it in advance - this is not a historical variant but a design that stayed on paper.
The Henschel turret, on the other hand, is pure history. The Tiger II was built with two different turrets and they are told apart at first glance: the early Porsche turret had a rounded front whose curvature acted as a shot trap - a hit deflected off the curve was directed down onto the hull roof, that is, into a weak spot. The later Henschel turret has a flat, sloped front, which removed this defect, and it was also easier to manufacture. That is the one this model was given.
Work from the inside out: finish and paint the interior and the running gear before you close the hull up - after that you will not get inside. Plan the inside in advance according to how much of it you intend to show in the end; it makes sense to leave the hatches or the engine compartment open. Prepare the individual track links in batches, clean them up and glue them into longer runs before fitting. Bond with liquid cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with super glue. Apply a primer before painting and spray the camouflage with an airbrush - in 1:16 graded shades and modulation come out well, but at the same time large areas forgive nothing. For weathering use washes in the recesses and welds and pigments for mud and dust effects around the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
