An extensive injection-molded plastic kit of the British battlecruiser HMS Hood in 1:200 from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The length of the assembled hull is 1318 mm and the beam 163 mm. The package contains more than 1490 parts, a hull molded in one piece by a slide mold working in two directions, seven photo-etched frets for railings, ladders and parts of the radar, metal propeller shafts, an anchor chain and a stand for display.
Hood was completed after the First World War as the largest and fastest capital ship of the Royal Navy and for two decades counted as the showpiece of the empire. She combined the armament of a battleship with the speed of a cruiser, but the price paid for it was weaker horizontal protection. In May 1941 she met a German force in the Denmark Strait and blew up after a hit; only a handful of her crew survived. The loss of the ship is among the best known episodes of the naval war in the Atlantic.
Plan the space first, the model is over a meter long and needs a firm base as well as room for display. Paint the decks and the superstructures separately before the final assembly, and fit the photo-etched railings only after varnishing. Degrease the metal shafts and the anchor chain, so that the paint holds on them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
