A self-adhesive deck of real wood for a large model of the British battlecruiser. It replaces the molded plastic deck of the base kit and gives it what paint cannot imitate: real wood grain and the depth of the seams between the planks. The sheet is large format, measuring roughly twenty-one and a half by fifty-seven and a half centimeters, and it is only two tenths of a millimeter thick, so once applied it does not raise the outlines of the superstructure. It is cut for the kit of one particular maker in this scale.
The base has to be smooth, degreased and free of paint residue; every grain of dust shows through thin wood. Lay the sheet down dry first and check the position of all the openings, because once the adhesive has seated you will not move it. Work from the center toward the edges and press the air out with a soft spatula. The wood can be coated with a matte varnish so that it does not get dirty; test this on an offcut first, though, because varnish darkens the color of the wood. If you want to tone the deck, do it with a glaze rather than an opaque paint.
For modelers of large ship models who want a deck on a par with the rest of the build, and for those who display a model up close. The work calls for calm and precision; with a self-adhesive sheet there is rarely a second attempt.
This is an accessory, not a ship kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
