A set of waterslide decals for a model of the racing BMW 320 of the first generation in Group 5 specification, in 1:24 scale. It matches the car of a private team from the 1984 season with its sponsor markings. It is not a kit, but markings on their own.
Group 5 cars were built to rules that watched mainly over the silhouette of the car. Underneath it, practically a racing machine of its own could arise: a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with high output, wide fenders, extensive aerodynamics and a racing chassis. In the first half of the eighties a number of these cars ran in private hands, often with striking sponsor liveries, which makes them a rewarding modeling subject.
Apply the decals over a gloss clear coat; on a matte surface a silvery veil will appear under them. Cut the sheet close to the motif so that no visible border is left along the edge. Dip a decal in water for only a few seconds and let it release on the backing paper; do not pull it with tweezers. Lay large areas of markings from the center toward the edges and squeeze the water out with a soft cloth. On edges and recessed detail use decal softener and press the film down with a cotton swab. Once dry, give the model a clear coat so that the edges blend into the surface.
