An accessory for modelers who are building the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X in 1:24 scale from the maker Aoshima. It is not a car kit but a set of 3D-printed colored interior parts on a decal backing: the dashboard, the door cards, the sports seats, the center console and the instrument cluster all have real three-dimensional relief, with raised dial bezels, switches, levers and stitching. The parts are applied like an ordinary decal, but thanks to the depth and the finished colors they create a photorealistic interior with NO painting. The dials are glossy and look like glazed instruments behind the steering wheel.

The real subject

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (the tenth generation) is a Japanese sports sedan growing out of the legacy of competition specials: a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive and sharp steering made it an icon of the JDM scene and of the rally world. The cabin of the Evo is purely functional: sports seats, a clear dashboard and an orientation toward the driver. In 1:24 scale it is clearly visible behind the windows, so a faithful interior lifts the model considerably.

Use

• The individual parts are cut out, dipped like a classic decal and settled onto the surfaces of the interior. Leave out the decal softener, as the printed resin does not tolerate it.
• The interior does not have to be sprayed or supplemented with photo-etched sets, as the colors are part of the decal.
• The relief follows the shapes of the particular Aoshima kit the set is intended for.
• Glue it before closing the body up, so that every surface is accessible.
