The kit captures the British off-road car Land Rover Series III with a long wheelbase in the commercial form. It is an injection-molded plastic kit by the German manufacturer Revell in 1:24 scale, that is in a fairly large format, which allows a decent degree of detail on the frame, in the interior and on the chassis. The Model Set designation means that Revell packs basic paints, a brush and glue in with the kit, so you can start building without a further purchase.
The Land Rover Series III followed on in 1971 from the older generations of the Series line and was built until the start of the 1980s. The recognition features are the radiator grille of plastic and the sturdy aluminum body on a ladder frame. The version with a long wheelbase, designated by the abbreviation LWB, served mainly as a working and commercial vehicle: in agriculture, with rescue and technical services and in the armies of a number of countries. The drive was most often provided by a four-cylinder of 2.25 liters, offered in a gasoline and a diesel variant, together with drive to both axles and a low-range transfer case.
It is advisable to spray the body and the frame with a base color first, so that the further coats hold well. The green and sand shades typical of this subject come out better after spraying with an airbrush than after a brush, but the paints packed in will serve well on the interior, the small parts and the accessories. Before applying the decals, varnish the surfaces with a gloss coat, and once dry go over them with a matte one, so that the edges of the decals are not visible. A restrained patina becomes a commercial vehicle: a dark wash into the engraved lines, dust shades on the lower part of the body and fine chipping of the finish on the edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The set also contains the basic paints, glue and a brush; other accessories are not included.
