This product is not an aircraft model but a set of decals in 1:24 scale from the British firm Airscale. It makes a highly faithful instrument panel possible for the legendary American long-range escort fighter, the North American P-51D Mustang. The set offers color decals for the whole panel, including legible dials, plates and placards of the kind found in a real Mustang cockpit.
The P-51D Mustang was one of the most successful fighters of the Second World War. The Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (license-built by Packard) combined with an aerodynamic laminar-flow wing and a large fuel load made it the ideal escort fighter for long-range raids over Europe and the Pacific. The teardrop canopy typical of the D version gave an excellent view out.
The decal goes onto a smoothly painted instrument panel, ideally over gloss varnish and with a decal softener. Once dry it is sealed with matte varnish, and the individual dials can be picked out with a drop of gloss varnish to imitate glass. The set normally comes with an illustrated instruction sheet.
This is an accessory (instrument panel decals), not a kit. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
