The real subject

The ACES II ejection seat is among the most widespread American seats of all; besides the F-16, a range of other combat machines received it as well. It is a so-called zero-zero seat, that is one able to save a pilot even when leaving a machine standing on the ground. In the later production series of the F-16 the seat differed in detail from the early form, and it is exactly the late form that the name of the set gives.

What the set offers

This is replacement cockpit equipment in 1:32 scale, intended according to the name for kits from the brands Tamiya and Academy. In an open cockpit the seat is the most visible part of the interior: a viewer looks at it before the instrument panel, and the difference between a simplified kit part and a well worked replacement therefore shows on a finished model. In the large 1:32 scale that goes double, because the cockpit really is sizeable.

Building and painting tips

Cut surplus material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand off the remainder, and wash and degrease the parts before painting. Choose the glue according to the material given on the packaging; the exact preparation procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Assemble and paint the seat before gluing it into the fuselage, while it is accessible from every side. A dark base proves itself, with a lighter shade for the upholstery over it and finally a dry brush to bring out the edges. Set the straps and handles apart in color, because it is exactly those that give the seat its depth.
