The exhaust nozzle of the F-35B Lightning II for a short takeoff in 1:32 scale from the brand Reskit captures the partial deflection of the exhaust during the takeoff run.
Responsibility details are not available.
A short takeoff from a limited runway or from the ramp of an amphibious ship is the discipline for which the B version of the Lightning II came about at all. The Reskit set captures the exhaust exactly in the position it takes during such a run, when it already points obliquely downward while the machine is still moving forward.
On the B version the rear exhaust is turned by an articulated mechanism with three oblique bearings. During the takeoff run it deflects only partially, while the lift fan behind the cockpit adds thrust at the nose and the doors above it are open. The aircraft thus gathers speed and lightens itself at the same time, which lets it lift off after a few tens of meters. It is precisely in this intermediate position that the machine is most often seen in shots from a deck.
The inside deserves metallic shades with a hint of heat discoloration and fine wear on the edges of the petals. The part is seated into the tail of the fuselage, so it is sensible to try the fit dry before the two halves are glued together. A flowing dark shade will then bring out the division of the individual segments.
The set settles only the exhaust part; the rest of the propulsion and the airframe are not in it.
