This item is an add-on set, not a kit of the aircraft. The resin castings are intended for a model of the Vought F-8 Crusader carrier fighter in 1:32 scale and replace parts where injection-molded plastic runs into the limits of what it can do. The benefit shows mainly in a large scale, where the model stands in a display case as the main piece and the individual assemblies are examined close up. The actual extent of the package differs from item to item in this line, so go by the information on the box of the set.
The Vought F-8 Crusader was an American single-seat carrier fighter powered by a Pratt & Whitney J57 jet engine with an afterburner. Its most striking design feature was the variable-incidence wing, which during takeoff and landing on a carrier deck tilted upward as a whole. The fuselage could thus stay in a more level attitude and the pilot had a better view of the deck. The Crusader was one of the last American fighters with heavy gun armament, and in its reconnaissance form it served long after the fighter versions had been withdrawn.
Before building, wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and never break them off. Level the mating surfaces with abrasive paper and sand wet, with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting, otherwise the paint would hold poorly on the smooth casting. On a carrier aircraft it pays to give attention to the cleanliness of the surface, because such a model is often finished with heavier weathering. So fill and sand the transition between resin and plastic before you start painting.
The add-on set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
