A precisely cut self-adhesive painting mask for the canopy glazing of a model of the Gloster Meteor F.8/FR.9 in 1:32 scale from the Czech brand Art Scale. It is intended for the kit from Revell. It is a double-sided mask: it masks the canopy frames from the inside and from the outside.

What it is for

The mask replaces the slow hand masking of glazing with adhesive tape. The double-sided version also lets you spray the canopy frames with interior paint on the inside and with the exterior color on the outside, exactly as on a real aircraft, where the frames have a different shade inside than out. The result is more complete, but it takes more work and uses up more masks. Anyone who only wants to mask the glazing from the outside quickly reaches for the single-sided variant of the same mask.

The real subject

The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter and the only Allied jet aircraft committed to combat in the Second World War. The F.8 version is a postwar modernization with a longer fuselage, an ejection seat and a reworked tail; it formed the backbone of the fighter force of the Royal Air Force in the first half of the 1950s. The FR.9 was a reconnaissance variant derived from the F.8.

Use

• clean and degrease the glazing first
• stick the inner pieces on first and spray the interior paint, then the outer pieces and the exterior color
• spray in thin coats, so that the paint does not seep under the edge
• lift the mask off while the paint is still fresh
