Four R-27ER guided missiles, the main radar-guided weapon of fighters of eastern design, with extended range. Resin, 1:32.
Responsibility details are not available.
From the 1980s the R-27 type formed the backbone of the armament of single-seat fighters of eastern design, and in the Western code designation it appears as Alamo. The version with the ER suffix, code Alamo-C, combines semi-active radar homing with a substantially bulkier motor section, so the range grew considerably against the basic version. Its unmistakable recognition feature is the pair of butterfly-wing destabilizers in the forward part, which no other contemporary weapon of its class has.
The package holds four complete units. At 1:32 those characteristic forward surfaces come fully into their own, because their undulating outline is exactly what makes the type recognizable at first glance. It is cast in resin, which copes with thin trailing edges better than injection-molded plastic.
Semi-active radar homing means the carrier aircraft had to illuminate the target with its radar right up to impact, so on models the weapon appears in pairs under the fuselage or on the inner wing stations. Apply the light base shade in thin coats so the transition to the tip of the seeker head is not lost. The contrasting rings near the nose come out most easily with masking tape cut into narrow strips. Training rounds differed from combat ones by a more pronounced color scheme, which is a rewarding way to liven up a model without touching its shape. A matte varnish at the end will unify the surface.
