Su-25 Frogfoot: pitot tubes (1:32, Master)

A detail accessory of metal and resin, not an aircraft model. The set replaces the plastic pitot (airspeed) probes of the Sukhoi Su-25 ground-attack aircraft with parts of turned metal supplemented by a fine resin item. The left probe is a one-piece metal pin ending in a sharp tip, while the right probe combines turned tubes with a resin part that faithfully captures the characteristic vanes and protrusions typical of Soviet probes. The result is sharper and finer than anything achievable in injection-molded plastic. It is made by the Polish manufacturer Master.

Use and fitting

• Cut off the plastic probes and drill a hole in the remaining part for the new metal pins.
• First wash the resin part to remove mold release agent and separate it from the casting block.
• Bond the metal as well as the resin parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate).
• The probes are among the finest and most exposed parts of the model, so fit them at the very end.

Painting tips

Treat the metal with a primer and only then paint it. Su-25 probes are normally painted in a dark metallic shade with a hint of wear; a fine wash brings out the detail of the vanes on the right probe. Leave the sharp tips bare and clean.
