A pair of resin adapters that will seat Western munitions on a Soviet Su-27 pylon. 1:32 scale, a finely printed open-frame structure.
Responsibility details are not available.
After 2022 the Ukrainian Air Force faced a task the designers at Sukhoi had never reckoned with: hanging munitions built to an American standard on a Flanker. Different lug spacing, a different electrical interface and different arming mechanics are solved by an adapter that clamps onto the original pylon underneath and offers the mounting a Western weapon expects on top. An adapter like that opened the way for the Su-27 to the GBU-39 glide bomb and to the GBU-62 JDAM-ER kit, which turns an ordinary weapon into a gliding one with extended reach.
The contents are two pieces, as many as the aircraft needs for one pair of underwing stations. They bring a Flanker model up to the state in which it flies today rather than the shape it had in the 1990s. The weapons themselves are the subject of separate sets – this part only carries them.
The adapter is in essence an open-frame beam: nothing but through openings, ribs and bolted joints. An injection mold would have to split it into several parts and would still leave gates behind in the middle of the frame. Printed resin manages it as a single piece, holes and all, and the holes really do go through. The result is paid for with care: the thin ribs break while the part is still hanging on its supports. The supports are nipped off sideways with cutters, the remains are trued up with a fine file and the part is glued with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue. The paint only holds over a primer; bare resin lets a coat go easily.
