An injection-molded plastic kit of the heavy 13-inch seacoast mortar famous under the name Dictator, in 1:35 scale from Mikromir. The set contains the parts of the barrel and of a shell and two variants of the base, a square and a round one, so the model can be built in different forms. Figures of the crew are not included in the package. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The thirteen-inch seacoast mortar was among the heaviest artillery pieces of the Union in the American Civil War. It threw a heavy shell over a great distance and was used in sieges of fortified positions. The example called Dictator became famous during the siege of Petersburg, where the Union used it from a railroad flatcar and where it was recorded many times in period photographs.
The model has a smaller number of parts, so cleaning them up and painting the cast-iron barrel and the wooden bed faithfully deserve all the more attention. Bring the metal out with a dark base and a dry brush and draw the wood out with glazes. The model fits superbly into a diorama with an artillery position; a crew can be added from other figure ranges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
