A kit of the French off-road special ACMAT VLRA 4.25 in 1:35 scale. The vehicle of deep reconnaissance patrols in Africa, done as a printed resin set with a richly detailed chassis and cargo bed.
Responsibility details are not available.
The abbreviation VLRA stands for a liaison, reconnaissance and support vehicle. The vehicle is made by the company ACMAT and since the 1970s it has served where the roads end, in the Sahel, in the Middle East and in equatorial Africa. The 4.25 version is the most widespread variant of the line, which the French special forces use for long independent patrols out of the reach of supply.
The VLRA carries an enormous supply of fuel and water, stands up to weeks without servicing, and its frame will carry bodies from gun mounts through radio sets to supply carriers. Modelers have taken a liking to it because of the open cargo bed, into which equipment, jerrycans, tarpaulins and the crew can be stacked, so the vehicle offers itself as the basis of a storytelling scene.
Resin parts are separated with a saw or a knife, not by breaking, and before gluing it is a good idea to wash them in lukewarm water with detergent. The joints are held by super glue. The crew, the decals and the paints are not enclosed; adding them from your own supplies is assumed. Given the extent of the set, this is a build for a modeler who already has experience with resin. Anyone still getting used to this material will at least appreciate that the main assemblies hold on their own and do not call for complicated reinforcing.
