An injection-molded plastic kit of the Italian desert vehicle Camionetta AS.42 Sahariana in 1:35 scale from Italeri. It is an open vehicle of the buggy type with a great deal of equipment and detail. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The AS.42 Sahariana was an Italian desert reconnaissance and raiding vehicle of the Second World War, developed for the fighting in North Africa. It was based on the chassis and running gear of the AB 41 armored car and was adapted for long-range patrols in the desert - the low silhouette let it take cover behind dunes, and its great range (boosted by fuel cans) allowed long independent expeditions. It was the Italian counterpart of the British LRDG and SAS jeeps. The armament differed from vehicle to vehicle according to the task - usually 20 mm Breda or Solothurn cannons, a 12.7 mm Breda machine gun or the 47/32 anti-tank gun.
An open vehicle means many visible details - it is a good idea to paint and weather the interior, the weapons, the fuel cans and the equipment section by section, before the final assembly. Glue the small parts with liquid cement for plastic and a light touch. Choose Italian desert shades (sand or yellow-brown) with heavy wear - dust, paint faded by the sun, abrasion by sand. Washes and pigments show to superb effect here on the tires, the floor and the equipment. Check the particular period camouflage scheme and markings against the real vehicle before spraying.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
