This collection of small resin castings of footwear from the Italian brand Royal Model belongs among the accessories that give a scene the quality of being lived in. The shoes are stacked in the corner of a workshop, stood by a bunk, hung over a crate or scattered among the rubble of a bombed-out house. The individual pieces are separate, so you can combine them in pairs or split them up.
A diorama lives on objects nobody put there on purpose. Discarded footwear is among them: it tells that somebody was here and left in a hurry. In 1:35 scale a shoe measures only a few millimeters, so the result is decided by the painting, not by the shape. Leather is never painted pure black: a dark brown base coat with dust rubbed into it is more suitable.
Separate the castings carefully from the gate pad with a sharp knife, because small parts break more easily than large ones. Washing the traces of mold release agent off and a thin coat of primer follow. Cyanoacrylate glue holds reliably, but on parts this small it is sensible to apply it with a pin, so that it does not run over the edge of a sole. A dusty sole finally reveals what was walked on.
