British Heavy Assault Tank A39 Tortoise in 1:35 scale from Meng, a plastic kit of the British experimental heavy assault tank from the end of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic kit of the British A39 Tortoise heavy assault tank in 1:35 scale from Meng. The model faithfully captures the massive, unusual shape of the vehicle with its fixed fighting superstructure rendered as a single part with cast texture and weld detail. The kit contains parts in olive plastic and individual track links, well-developed running gear with torsion bars and opening hatches. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The A39 Tortoise was a British experimental heavy assault tank developed toward the end of the Second World War to break through strong German fortifications. It was an enormous vehicle weighing around 79 tonnes, with exceptionally thick armor and a fixed casemate instead of a conventional rotating turret; the main weapon was mounted in the front superstructure with limited traverse. The heavy hull rode on torsion bar suspension. The project stayed at the trials stage and was stopped after the end of the war; only six prototypes were built. One of them can still be seen today in the tank museum at Bovington.
Assemble and paint the running gear before you close up the hull; with individual track links, patience and gluing in longer runs both pay off. The cast texture of the superstructure is brought out with a base coat over primer and then with washes that run into the welds and recesses. The large flat areas of armor suit restrained modulation of the shade, with dust pigments on the lower parts. The hatches can be built open and fitted with interior detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
