An injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Chinese ZTZ-99B main battle tank of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. The model is unassembled and meant for gluing and painting; the package holds plastic parts, instructions, decals and photo-etched parts. The build allows a choice of different add-on armor panels on the turret according to the configuration of the real vehicle.
The ZTZ-99B ranks among the most modern main battle tanks in PLA service and represents a further stage of development of the Type 99 and 99A line. It carries a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, a welded turret with modular composite and add-on armor and a modern fire control system. It combines strong firepower, good mobility and a high level of protection. In design it follows the Eastern school (a low silhouette, a layout close to the T-72 line), but with Chinese modernization of its own.
Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and the photo-etched parts (the grilles) with super glue. Assemble and paint the running gear and any interior before you close the hull and fit the turret. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. For a faithful look, washes serve to pick out detail and hatches and pigments for dust effects on the running gear and the side skirts. It is best to add the skirts and the add-on panels only once the main surfaces are painted.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
