The follow-up part of the same building: European storehouse ruin, part 2 from Royal Model adds a further demolished section of wall to 1:35 diorama buildings.

This item belongs to the second part of the subject of the same name from the Royal Model range. The two are sold separately and complement each other; judging by the form of the brickwork these are sections of the same hall, not two different buildings. Here too the material is plaster, and the remains of a utility building are built from it, into which figures and vehicles in 1:35 scale are then set.
Brick halls usually stood where goods were transshipped, that is by rail sidings, transshipment yards and factory courtyards. During the war such places became targets of air raids, because supply decided the advance of armies as much as firepower. The outer walls stayed standing even after a hit, while the roof structure collapsed inward; bricks, beams and twisted sheet metal lay scattered around.
A second section of building opens up the possibility of building a corner or an opposite wall and closing a scene off with it. It pays to leave a sight line between the objects through which the viewer sees into the depth; a solid wall all the way round smothers a scene. Strengthen the plaster surface with a thin base coat before painting, otherwise it crumbles and soaks. Darken the interior spaces, so that the contrast with the lit frontage comes out, and unify the rubble at the foot of the wall with the base using pigment.
The plaster parts come unassembled and without a finish; prepare the material for the terrain separately.
