This is not a kit but a single turned metal barrel. It replaces the plastic barrel of the German 20 mm automatic cannon of the Flak 30 type with an L/65 length. The package contains one piece. The manufacturer is the Polish company MASTER.
The Flak 30 was a 20 mm automatic cannon, the predecessor of the later Flak 38. The gun was fed from box magazines and was used on a towed mount as well as in mountings on vehicle chassis. Both types share the same L/65 barrel length but differ in mechanism and rate of fire, so a mix-up of the type shows on the model rather on the mount than on the barrel itself.
A plastic barrel has a blanked-off muzzle and a parting line along its length that has to be sanded away, which thins the barrel and takes away its round section. Turned metal offers a finished bore, a straight axis and a perfectly cylindrical surface. On the model this shows above all from the front, where the open muzzle is obvious at once. A metal barrel also survives being taken hold of awkwardly when the model is carried.
Cut the plastic barrel off square with a saw, level the mating surface and drill a hole for the pin of the metal part. Before gluing, check dry that the barrel sits on the axis of the mounting, both from above and from the side. Glue it with cyanoacrylate or with a two-part epoxy, which gives more time for aligning it. Degrease the metal with alcohol, apply a primer meant for metal and only then the paint. An alternative is chemical bluing, which gives the surface depth without a further coat. A metal barrel also combines well with photo-etched parts, for instance with the shield or the sights.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
