An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. The subject is a German three-ton cargo truck with a triple anti-aircraft mount for the MG 151/20 — the so-called Drilling — set on its bed (Drilling means triplet in German). MiniArt is famous for richly equipped kits and this one is no exception: it contains a complete engine and engine bay with a removable hood, the cab interior, a well-worked chassis, a wooden cargo bed with a metal frame, a spare wheel, a jerrycan, a photo-etched fret and, for the armament, ammunition boxes and spent 20 mm shell cases. The decals cover two vehicles and are supplemented by technical lettering and instrument dials for the interior.
The MG 151/20 was originally an aircraft 20 mm cannon. In the closing stages of the war, when Allied aircraft attacked German columns from low level practically without opposition, the Germans learned to use it differently: three barrels on a common mount, that mount on the bed of an ordinary truck — and the result was an improvised mobile anti-aircraft weapon that could travel with the column and answer with fire at once. The high rate of fire of three twenty-millimeter barrels was lethally effective against low-flying strafing aircraft. Such machines were put together in a hurry, often in field workshops, and that is exactly why they look so interesting: a civilian truck with brutal armament in the back.
The kit is complex and full of parts — it is a kit for a modeler who has built something before. Work from the back forward: first paint and weather the chassis, the engine and the cab interior, and only then close up the body, because after that you cannot get inside. The hood can be left open and the engine shown off — it would be a shame to hide it. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene and the photo-etch with super glue. Spray over a primer, lay a gloss clear coat under the decals and matte the surface once it is dry. Differentiate the cannon barrels and the mount with metallic shades and light wear; the spent cases on the bed are a detail that gives the scene tension.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
