An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Pz.Sfl.IVa self-propelled gun nicknamed Dicker Max in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the open superstructure with the massive 10.5 cm gun, a well-worked breech and fighting compartment interior, and a hull derived from the chassis of the Panzer IV tank. According to the manufacturer the box also contains photo-etched parts, a metal tow cable and a choice of individual link tracks or soft vinyl tracks. The exact part counts differ between individual releases.
Dicker Max, in full 10.5 cm K gepanzerte Selbstfahrlafette (Pz.Sfl.IVa), was a German prototype heavy self-propelled gun from the early part of the Second World War. On a lengthened chassis derived from the Panzer IV tank it carried the long 10.5 cm K 18 gun, intended to destroy fortifications and heavily armored targets. Only two vehicles were built, and they were committed on the Eastern Front in 1941 and 1942. The nickname Dicker Max means roughly Fat Max.
The open superstructure reveals the inside of the gun, so assemble and paint the fighting compartment, the breech and the ammunition stowage before you close up the hull, because you will not reach them later. Finish the running gear and the tracks first. Lay down primer and then the finish coat; Panzergrau gray is typical of early German service. Lighten the inside of the superstructure, bring out the edges with a dry brush, underline the panel lines with a wash and add dust and mud pigments to the lower areas.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
