Four pieces of the hand fire extinguisher of Allied vehicles, with decals. A small but conspicuous detail on a fender, on the side of a load bed and in the crew compartment, 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A cylindrical bottle with a stirrup bracket was part of the required equipment of armored and truck vehicles of the western armies. It hung within the crew's reach, that is, by an entry hatch, on the inner wall of the fighting compartment or on a fender, and it tends to be one of the few lighter objects on an otherwise single-color machine. The eye finds it on a model at once.
The package contains four pieces and a decal sheet with the lettering for the bottle. Four will cover one vehicle with a spare for a neighboring build, or allow you to try the placing dry before the part is glued on permanently.
The bottle is slender and the pour lug on it tends to run along the length of the cylinder, so the cut has to follow the outline, not cross it. Guide the saw along the axis and then level the resulting flat with an abrasive block, turning the part between your fingers so that the cylinder does not flatten into an oval.
The mounting is more delicate than the casting itself. The bracket is often cast together with the body and its stirrup is weak, so leave it until last when cleaning up and never rest the pressure of a tool on it. Where the stirrup is missing or breaks off, a strip cut from the aluminum foil of a yogurt lid will replace it, bent over the body and glued to the side of the vehicle.
In terms of color it pays to finish the bottle separately and fit it only after the vehicle has been dusted. A saturated red or brass surface would be lost during overall shading, whereas a finished part set in at the end stays legible and can still be lightly dusted around the edges.
