An injection-molded plastic kit of the Italian M.A.S. (Motoscafo Armato Silurante, armed torpedo motorboat) in 1:35 scale from Italeri. The box holds six crew figures, photo-etched parts, clear parts, rigging thread and quayside accessories for an effective scene. The abbreviation M.A.S. denotes the fast Italian torpedo boats; the 500 type (4th series) was powered by Isotta-Fraschini gasoline engines and reached a speed of around 40 knots.
The M.A.S. boats were small, fast and agile craft of the Regia Marina. They carried two 450 mm torpedoes and could also serve to hunt submarines with depth charges. Thanks to their speed and low silhouette they were ideal for night attacks on larger ships. The Italian successes with M.A.S. boats are famous as far back as the First World War; the 500 type then came into its own in the Second World War.
The large 1:35 scale invites careful work on the hull, the deck and the engine compartment. Build up the wooden deck planking from a base tone and shade it with glazes. Paint the figures separately and place them only at the end. Use the rigging thread and the quayside accessories for a small diorama. Glue the clear parts with a cement suitable for clear parts so that they do not fog.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
