An injection-molded plastic model of the M4A1(76)W Sherman medium tank in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Dragon, in the version for Operation Cobra (the American breakout in Normandy, summer 1944). The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; for the exact contents of the package, go by the enclosed instructions.
The M4A1 can be told from the other Shermans by its cast one-piece hull with rounded shapes; it was powered by a Continental radial gasoline engine. The designation (76)W means the 76mm gun with a high muzzle velocity and wet stowage of the ammunition. Operation Cobra was the American breakout from the Normandy bridgehead at the end of July 1944, in which the newly delivered Shermans with the 76mm gun got their chance to prove themselves against the more resistant German hardware.
First finish the running gear and the underside of the hull. The cast hull comes out well with a fine texture: after spraying, accentuate it by lightly lightening the surfaces and with a wash. Spray the olive green base over a primer; for the summer of 1944, dusty fenders and mud from the hedgerows of the Normandy countryside suit it. Pigments and a dry brush will add dust as well as scuffed metal.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
