A modern filling station is a rewarding backdrop for present-day hardware. The set of modern fuel pumps from the brand Royal Model brings elements around which a whole scene can be built up with an armored vehicle, with a patrol pickup or with a group of civilians in 1:35 scale.
Most of the images from the conflicts of recent decades were not made in open country but in towns and along roads. A filling station works there as a landmark, as a meeting point and as a target of attack. A fuel pump also gives the scene scale: the viewer sees at once how tall the vehicle standing beside it is and can judge the distances. That is exactly why the pumps turn up in scenes with American, Israeli and Middle Eastern hardware and belong among the most frequently built urban backdrops of all.
Free the castings of mold release agent in a lukewarm bath and level the remains of the gates with a file. A pump comes out well when you lay a smooth gloss undercoat under the paint, because the sheet-metal covers of the pumps used to be lacquered and worn edges show up well on them. Dust and greasy stains at the foot of the pump are created by a dark wash completed with pigment. The hose is best suggested with a soft wire.
