This kit in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter represents the Chinese self-propelled howitzer PLZ-83A (Type 83) of 152 mm caliber. It is an injection-molded plastic model to be assembled and painted. The box contains plastic parts, photo-etched grilles for the engine deck, copper wire for the tow cable and vinyl tracks. The turret has a suggested interior and an anti-aircraft machine gun of 12.7 mm caliber.
The Type 83 was the first modern self-propelled howitzer taken into service by the Chinese People's Liberation Army. It carried a howitzer of 152 mm caliber on a tracked chassis and entered service in the first half of the 1980s. The open fighting turret at the rear of the hull gave the crew room to work the gun and to stow ammunition.
First assemble the running gear and fit the vinyl tracks, and only then close the hull up. Use a liquid cement for plastic and apply a primer. We recommend spraying the paints with an airbrush; for weathering, washes and pigments for dust and mud effects work well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
