About product

Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf.B 1:35 — plastic kit, Dragon

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Panzer I light tank in the Ausf.B version in 1:35 scale from Dragon. The subject is one of the first production tanks of the Wehrmacht — a small, lightly armed machine that served mainly for training, for reconnaissance and in the opening campaigns of the war. The kit is usually supplemented with photo-etched parts and a decal sheet for several marking variants; the exact contents of a particular package are confirmed by the instruction sheet. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Panzer I came about in the first half of the 1930s as a training and transitional type on which the German tank arm learned both tactics and production. The Ausf.B version received a lengthened hull with five road wheels on each side and a more powerful engine than the original Ausf.A. Its armament consisted of a pair of machine guns in the turret, and its armor was thin. Although the Panzer I was obsolete against later tanks, it saw use in the Spanish Civil War and in the first campaigns of the Second World War and became the foundation on which Germany built its armored forces.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and fit the running gear and the tracks before you close up the hull. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue and the plastic parts with liquid cement for plastic applied drop by drop. Spray the model with a primer, lay down the base coat with an airbrush and then work with washes and pigments — mud and dust effects on the running gear come out well on a small tank.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of early German armor in 1:35 scale
  • For modelers interested in the beginnings of the German tank arm
  • For builders of dioramas of the Spanish Civil War and the beginning of the Second World War
  • For more experienced modelers who enjoy working with photo-etched parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The Ausf.B has a lengthened hull with five road wheels on each side and a more powerful engine than the original Ausf.A. Its armament consisted of a pair of machine guns in the turret.

Dragon kits are usually supplemented with photo-etched parts and a decal sheet, but the exact contents of a particular package depend on the edition — the instruction sheet confirms them. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue.

Dragon kits tend to be detailed and to have tiny parts, so they suit more experienced modelers. We recommend liquid cement for plastic, a primer and airbrush painting.
