A plastic kit of the Soviet gun of 100 mm caliber, model 1944, known under the designation BS-3, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It is not a vehicle, but a towed gun on a split-trail carriage, built complete with the carriage, the shield and the barrel with its muzzle brake.
The BS-3 appeared during the Second World War as an answer to the new German tanks, against which the Soviet anti-tank guns of the day were no longer enough. The design grew out of 100 mm naval ammunition and was led by the design bureau of V. G. Grabin. The gun received a split-trail carriage with two trails, a two-wheeled carriage for towing behind a tractor and a shield protecting the crew. It entered service in 1944; it served both to destroy armored vehicles and as a heavy field gun against ground targets. The 100 mm caliber went on to establish itself in the Soviet army — postwar tank guns used the same round. The BS-3 stayed in the armament of a number of armies long after the war.
Put the carriage together on a flat board and check as you go that the gun stands on its wheels and on both trail ends at once — otherwise the finished model will rock. Clean the parting seams off the barrel and the muzzle brake, as they are the most visible. Soviet equipment is painted in protective green, which takes a dark wash into the riveted and bolted joints well. The model comes into its own on a small base with ground, where a trail dug into the earth and the trampled soil around it can be suggested.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
