An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet BTR-70 wheeled armored personnel carrier in the early version, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the characteristic eight-wheel amphibious carrier with its sloped hull front and small turret. According to the manufacturer the box contains, besides the plastic, clear plastic for the vision blocks, a photo-etched fret, rubber parts and decals.
The BTR-70 was a Soviet eight-wheel armored personnel carrier brought into service in the 1970s as the successor to the older BTR-60. The vehicle with drive on all wheels was amphibious and in the water it was propelled by a waterjet. It carried an infantry squad under armored protection and was armed with a turret with machine guns. The early version differed from the later machines in certain design details. The BTR series of carriers spread to a number of armies around the world.
With vehicles it pays to finish and paint the running gear and the interior before you close the hull. Glue the clear plastic for the vision blocks in only after painting. Use thin cement for plastic and bond the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. The Soviet green scheme is nicely brought to life by weathering: dark washes emphasize the panel gaps and the rivets, while dust and mud pigments on the wheels and the underside give the carrier authenticity.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
