The Sturmmörser Tiger came about by converting the chassis of the heavy Tiger tank into a vehicle for firing into built-up areas. In place of a turret it got a fixed angular superstructure with heavy frontal armor, and in it a short rocket launcher of 38 cm caliber. Only very few were made, so it is more of a curiosity than a machine used in numbers, and that is exactly why modelers reach for it.
The figure L/5.4 in the designation is not the caliber but the length of the barrel expressed in multiples of the caliber. With a caliber of 38 cm that works out at a weapon roughly two meters long, so conspicuously short and thick. The rounds were moved by a small crane at the rear of the superstructure and loaded from behind, which gives the vehicle its typical silhouette with a jib over the rear.
The name gives complete internal equipment. That means that the inside of the fighting compartment is built as well, not only the outer shell, so the kit allows a hatch or the rear door to be left open and the inside to be seen. Count on a higher part count and a longer build than with an ordinary kit.
Paint the inside and shade it in before you close the hull, because afterwards you will not get at it. Keep trying it dry as you go, so that the parts seat as they should. The thick flat surfaces of the superstructure give every unevenness away, so fill the joints carefully and sand them smooth. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and filler are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
