About product

Triceratops Eurycephalus: collector model 1:35, made by Tamiya

A plastic kit of the prehistoric reptile Triceratops in 1:35 scale from the Tamiya prehistoric range. The model is conceived as a clear kit with a limited number of parts, so it goes together quickly and easily: the parts fit together even without glue. It faithfully captures the animal's characteristic silhouette as well as the wrinkled, worn-looking skin that you can then have fun with when painting. It is an ideal model for younger modelers, for a school project and for the experienced builder who wants a rest from more demanding kits.

The real subject

Triceratops was one of the last and largest horned dinosaurs (ceratopsids) and lived at the end of the Mesozoic era, just before the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous, in the area of present-day North America. You will recognize it by its parrot-like beak, two long horns above the eyes, a smaller horn on the nose and the massive bony frill that protected the neck and probably also served to deter predators and rivals. It was a sturdy herbivore that grazed on low vegetation.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts before painting and apply a thin primer, so that the paint holds better on the smooth plastic. Paint the skin from a darker base and pull out the wrinkled texture over it with a lighter tone and a dry brush; let a dark wash run into the folds so that the relief stands out. The horns and the beak can be set apart in a horn-like, bony shade. The actual colors of prehistoric animals are not known, so choose realistic, rather earthy tones to your own taste.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of prehistoric fauna and dinosaurs
  • For beginners and younger modelers, thanks to the easy build without glue
  • For school projects and themed display cases about prehistory
  • For experienced modelers who want to practice painting skin and relief

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. The model has a limited number of parts and goes together even without glue, so it suits beginners, younger modelers and school projects. The room for experienced modelers lies mainly in painting the skin.

After applying a primer, paint the skin from a darker base, bring out the wrinkles with a lighter tone and a dry brush and let a dark wash run into the folds. Set the horns and the beak apart in a bony shade.

They are not. The model is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and other accessories have to be bought separately. It can also be assembled dry, but for a permanent joint and the final look we recommend glue and paints.
