The subject is the German heavy tank project VK 100.01 (p), nicknamed the Mammut, that is a design that never matured into a running machine. The 2 in 1 designation in the name means that the package offers two building variants. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The VK 100.01 (p) belonged among the German designs for very heavy tanks of the early 1940s, which came about in the development line leading to the later heavy vehicles. It was a project with massive armor and a matching weight, whose practical limits were the drive, mobility over ground, transport by rail and the load capacity of bridges. The project stayed on paper and in design documents, so the model belongs in the category of what is known as paper vehicles, where there is far more room for your own approach to painting than on production types.
On a project that was never built no surviving markings are binding, so think out your approach beforehand: a factory trial machine in a single color, or a hypothetical field use with a multicolor camouflage pattern. Finish the running gear and the inner sides of the wheel wells before the tracks go on. Large armor plates call for careful sanding of the seams, as otherwise the finished paint will emphasize them. A primer works well, then a base shade brightened in the middle of the faces, a discreet lift of the edges and aging graded according to the story chosen; on a trial machine only dust, on a field version mud in the running gear as well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
