Injection-molded plastic kit of the battleship Scharnhorst in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The assembled model is around 72 cm long and the box also holds photo-etched parts for the fine detail. It is a large and fairly demanding model for advanced builders.
Scharnhorst was one of the best-known German capital ships of the Second World War, counted among the fast battleships (in the literature she is also described as a battlecruiser). Her main armament was 283 mm guns, and thanks to a high speed of over 31 knots she outran most Allied heavy ships. She was used in the Atlantic and in Arctic waters and was sunk by a British force in the Battle of the North Cape at the end of December 1943.
The hull can be built to full depth and set on the stand supplied for the display case. Give attention to the decks when you bring out the planking, and glue the photo-etched parts (the railings, for example) with cyanoacrylate glue. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic parts, apply primer before painting, and an airbrush handles the final coat best. The shades of the Kriegsmarine gray camouflage come out well after fine separation of the panels and light weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
