An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Liberty class cargo ship SS John W. Brown in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the typical mass-built supply ship of the Second World War with a finely shaped deck and superstructure. According to the manufacturer the box contains decals and parts for building either the full hull or a waterline version.
Liberty class ships were American cargo steamers built during the Second World War in large batches and in record time. They served as the backbone of the transatlantic convoys that carried equipment, fuel, food and troops to Europe. SS John W. Brown is one of the few surviving examples of the class and is preserved to this day as a seaworthy museum ship, which makes her a rewarding subject.
Use thin cement for plastic and build in subassemblies. Decide in advance whether you will build the full hull or the waterline version for a diorama with a sea surface. Finish and paint the deck equipment, the cranes and the superstructures before final assembly. Lay down a primer before painting and spray the colors with an airbrush. On a working ship, rust weathering, salt stains and deck wear stand out well. Photo-etched railings and ladders make a suitable addition.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
