Searchlights for German warships, 1:350 scale from Spalah. 3D-printed resin, an accessory for a ship model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory for a model, not a ship kit: ship searchlights for the Bismarck, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Tirpitz in 1:350 scale. The maker is the Ukrainian brand Spalah, which 3D-prints its parts from photopolymer resin and supplies them with print supports. A searchlight has a cylindrical body with a large lens and a thin mounting frame, which is exactly the combination where a plastic part from a kit usually ends up as a smooth block.
Large searchlights served on warships both to search for targets and to signal, and they were indispensable for night action, when gunnery could not do without the target being lit. They were mounted on raised platforms on the masts and superstructure, from where they had a clear view. On the silhouette of a ship they stand out, and their glossy lens is one of the few features on an otherwise gray model that can reflect light.
Wash the print resin residue off the parts, cut the print supports away and sand the marks with respiratory protection. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the body together with the superstructure so that the shade matches, and then suggest the lens with a gloss varnish or a drop of clear resin; it is the shine that reads as glass, not the color. Fit them last of all.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
