This set from the Polish manufacturer MASTER replaces the main artillery armament on a model of the small cruiser SMS Emden. According to the name the package holds six guns in the shielded guise and four on an open mount, that is, ten pieces in all, and it combines parts in resin, photo-etched sheet and turned metal parts. It is not a model of the ship: the set is an accessory for a kit already bought in 1:350 scale.
The SMS Emden was a small cruiser of the Imperial German Navy built before the First World War. Its main armament consisted of ten guns of 10.5 cm SK L/40 caliber, which matches the number of pieces in this set exactly. The division into shielded guns and guns on an open mount follows from how the weapons were distributed on the ship: protected positions in exposed places, open ones elsewhere. On a model these small barrels are one of the most jarring places if they are built from plastic.
Degrease the turned metal parts, otherwise the paint will not hold on them. Bend the photo-etched parts over a bending tool or at least over a hard edge, never break them between your fingers. Free the resin parts of their casting blocks with a saw and level the surfaces. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; with small parts it helps to apply a drop on a pin. The surest procedure is to paint the parts before they are fitted to the deck and to touch them up only once they are glued on; then bring the finished guns out with a dark wash and a fine dry brush.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a stand-alone model. The kit, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
