Exhaust nozzle for the A-7D Corsair II, 1:48

An accessory set of the engine exhaust nozzle for a model of the American A-7D attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement part. On a single-engine machine the nozzle is the one place that everyone who walks around the model from behind looks at, and the plastic part from the kit tends to be thick and without any interior structure.

What it is for

• Replacing the plastic nozzle with a part that has a thin wall and interior detail.
• Showing the inner cone and the petals, which are visible from the rear.
• Removing the parting line that runs right around the part.
• Raising the detail in a place that cannot be hidden.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts from their carriers with a sharp blade or a fine saw and sand the cut face; do not snap them off. The material is hard and brittle, so work without pressure and protect your airways while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Wash and degrease the part before painting. The inside of the nozzle is usually scorched to metallic and brownish tones, which is best built up by layering dark metallic shades and finishing with a fine pigment.
