An exhaust nozzle for the Vought A-7E Corsair II carrier-based attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. The replacement part refines the rear of the engine section of a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Reskit offers this part as a separate casting that takes the place of the rear end of the engine section and reveals a division that is only made with difficulty in injection-molded plastic. According to the name the set is aimed at the A-7E version.
The A-7 came about as a subsonic attack aircraft for the US Navy and takes its shape from the F-8 fighter, though it is shorter, stockier and has a large frontal air intake under the nose. The A-7E version was among the most widespread: it received a more powerful engine and navigation and targeting equipment that made it an accurate carrier of bombs on long flights. The characteristic feature is precisely the tail with its prominent circular nozzle, which is visible on a model from every angle and can hardly be hidden.
The original plastic part is cut off along the engraved division and the face is leveled with a file. The casting is tried dry until it sits without a gap, and only then does cyanoacrylate glue hold it. The interior looks good in metallic shades with a warm tint at the trailing edge and with dark traces of exhaust. It pays to paint it before gluing it in, because afterward access to the inside is limited.
