This item is not an aircraft model but an add-on store. The AN/ALQ-131 pod was made in two external forms, shallow and deep, which differ in the height of the housing according to the number of bands built in. This set matches the shallow version, which matters, because the two variants are told apart at a glance on a model and belong to the same aircraft depending on the particular deployment. Compared with the plastic part from a kit, the resin casting has a cleaner surface with no lengthwise seam and sharper edges on the cooling features.
The AN/ALQ-131 is an American electronic warfare pod that hangs on the pylon of a tactical aircraft and serves to disrupt the work of hostile radars. A number of US Air Force machines used it, the F-16 among them, and in modeling practice it is one of the most frequently depicted stores of modern tactical aircraft at all. The housing of the pod has a squared section with cooling features along the sides and exists in a shallow and a deep variant according to the extent of the equipment inside.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water before building to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, and never snap them. Level the mating surfaces with abrasive paper and sand wet, with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue, because ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Apply a primer before painting, as paint would otherwise sit badly on a smooth casting. Spray the pod separately and hang it on the finished model only at the end; that makes masking far simpler. Before gluing, check that the axis of the store runs parallel with the axis of the fuselage.
The add-on set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
