This monumental large-scale kit from the manufacturer HPH Models treats the American Convair B-36 Peacemaker heavy strategic bomber in 1:48 scale. It is not injection-molded plastic: the large areas of the fuselage and wings are fiberglass, the smaller parts are cast in resin and photo-etched and metal elements complete them. Because of the giant dimensions of the subject, the finished model is among the very largest aircraft models of all and is conceived as a prestigious collector's project for the advanced - definitely not for the inexperienced and not for a quick weekend build.
The Convair B-36 Peacemaker was a giant American intercontinental strategic bomber of the early Cold War. It was notable for its unusual powerplant - six piston engines in pusher arrangement on the trailing edge of the wing, complemented on the later versions by four jet engines (the six turning, four burning configuration). Its enormous span and range let it carry a nuclear load over great distances, and it was the bearer of American strategic deterrence until the jet-powered B-52 replaced it.
First wash the mold release agent off the fiberglass and resin parts, remove the casting blocks and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. On parts this large cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) proves itself, and so does reinforcing the joints and patient test-fitting of the large surfaces. For the natural metal finish typical of the B-36, consider quality metalizer paints applied with an airbrush over a smoothly polished primer. Count on a lot of room both for the build and for the final display.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a kit of resin and fiberglass. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
