About product

Bf 109K-4 Radio Compartment 1:48 (3D printed, Eduard)

This is NOT a model of an aircraft but a detail accessory for a kit. It is a 3D-printed set of the radio compartment for the Messerschmitt Bf 109K-4 in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard (Obrnice near Most), which is among the leaders of the world aftermarket. The radio compartment is the bay behind the cockpit where the radio set and the instrument equipment of the aircraft were housed. The set is designed for the plastic Bf 109K-4 model from Eduard.

What the set is for

Most kits leave this inner section out, because it is hidden behind a closed cover. But if you build the model with the panel behind the cockpit open, the inside with the radio and the instruments is revealed — and that is where this set comes in. Thanks to direct 3D printing it has crisply rendered instruments, cables and small elements that injection-molded plastic cannot manage in this scale. The result is a markedly higher level of detail in a place where the viewer looks straight into the innards of the aircraft.

The real subject

The Bf 109K-4 was the last mass-produced version of the legendary German Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter, deployed at the end of the Second World War. Compared with the older versions it had an aerodynamically cleaned-up airframe, a more powerful Daimler-Benz engine and a series of detail changes. The radio equipment behind the cockpit was among the typical internal features of these machines.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Bf 109K-4 from Eduard who want an open radio compartment
  • More experienced builders used to working with small 3D-printed parts
  • Collectors who care about the greatest possible fidelity of detail

This is an accessory for a particular kit, not a model in its own right. The parts are glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate); before gluing, wash them free of residue and cut off the print supports. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
