An injection-molded plastic kit of the Cessna L-19 light observation aircraft, later redesignated the O-1 Bird Dog, in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian brand Roden. The model is made up of plastic parts completed by a decal sheet; for the exact contents of the package and the markings, follow the enclosed instructions.
The Bird Dog was a single-engined high-wing monoplane derived from the civil Cessna 170, created at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s as an artillery observation and liaison machine. It made its name in Korea and in Vietnam, where it served for directing fire, for reconnaissance and as a forward air controller (FAC). Its roomy glazed cockpit gave the crew an excellent view of the ground.
The parts have tight tolerances in places, so we recommend dry-fitting and carefully sanding the mating surfaces, especially on the engine cowling and the glazing. Glue with thin cement for plastic, and fill and sand the joints before spraying. Use a primer before applying the colors; an airbrush will make the smooth coverage of the typical military finishes and of the extensive cockpit glazing easier.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
