About product

3DF Exhausts for the Bf 109F, 1:48 — Outside Installation (for the Eduard Kit)

A set of 3D-printed exhaust stacks for the Messerschmitt Bf 109F from Czech manufacturer 3DF, made using resin 3D-printing technology. It is a detail accessory for the Bf 109F kit in 1:48 scale from Eduard — it is not an airplane model, and the plastic kit is not included in the package.

What outside installation means

Replacement exhausts on models are usually fitted from inside the fuselage, before its halves are glued together. Anyone who thinks of them later has to disassemble the model or laboriously modify the openings. This set is designed differently: the tips are glued on from outside into openings in the finished fuselage. So there is no need to work inside the model at all, and the exhausts can be added even to a fuselage that is already glued and partway through the build. The practical benefit is mainly for painting — you can glue the parts on at the very end, after spraying and the paint has dried, so you won't get paint on them and won't have to mask them laboriously.

The real subject

The Bf 109F, nicknamed Friedrich, is often considered the aerodynamically cleanest version of the Messerschmitt Bf 109. It was powered by the inverted V12 engine Daimler-Benz DB 601, whose exhaust stacks protrude in rows on both sides of the forward fuselage. It is a prominent, clearly visible detail that is hard to hide on a finished model.

Use and fitting

  • Replaces the kit's plastic exhausts with more accurate printed parts with a fine surface.
  • Carefully separate the parts from the print supports — they are small and fragile.
  • Wash with lukewarm water and dish soap before painting and let dry.
  • Glue with cyanoacrylate (super glue); regular plastic cement does not work.
  • Painting: a dark metallic base, followed by rust or soot-colored pigments and washes.

Who the set is for

For modelers building the Bf 109F from Eduard in 1:48 scale — especially those who only get around to upgrading the exhausts partway through the build. Thanks to the outside installation, it's not too late even on an almost-finished model.

This is not an airplane model, but an accessory for one. The kit, glue, and paints are not included in the package. The printed parts are fragile — use respiratory protection and protect your eyes when sanding and cutting.

FAQ

The exhausts glue on from outside into openings in the finished fuselage, not from inside before its halves are glued together. So you don't need to work inside the model, and you can glue the parts on even to an already-assembled fuselage — even after the paint has been sprayed.

It is not. It is a detail accessory — stand-alone 3D-printed exhaust tips. The plastic Bf 109F kit is not included in the package and must be purchased separately.

For the Bf 109F kit in 1:48 scale from manufacturer Eduard. Fit into kits from other manufacturers is not guaranteed.

Separate them from the print supports, wash with lukewarm water and dish soap, and let dry. They are glued with cyanoacrylate (super glue) — plastic cement does not work on resin.
