About product

3DF exhausts for the Fw 190D-9 in 1:48 scale (for the MiniArt kit)

A set of 3D printed exhaust stubs for the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 from the Czech manufacturer 3DF. It is a detail accessory intended for the Fw 190D-9 kit in 1:48 scale from MiniArt; it is not a model of an aircraft and the plastic kit is not included in the package. The parts are produced by printing from photopolymer resin, which gives them sharp edges and a fine surface of a kind that injection-molded plastic reaches only with difficulty.

The real subject

The Fw 190D-9, nicknamed the Dora, is the long-nose version of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. Unlike the earlier versions with a radial engine it received a liquid-cooled Junkers Jumo 213 V12 engine with its characteristic annular radiator, on account of which the fuselage grew markedly longer. The V12 engine is also what the rows of exhaust stubs along the sides of the forward fuselage belong to. Those are among the details a viewer notices first on a finished model, and a faithful treatment of their openings visibly lifts the model.

Use and fitting

  • They serve to replace the exhaust parts from the plastic kit with more faithful 3D printed stubs.
  • Separate the parts carefully from the print supports; they are small and fragile, so a sharp scalpel or a fine saw is best.
  • Before painting, wash them in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry thoroughly, so that the paint holds well.
  • Bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); ordinary plastic cement does not work on resin.
  • Recommended painting procedure: a dark metal base and then rust and soot shades of pigments or a wash.

Who the set is for

For modelers who are building the MiniArt Fw 190D-9 in 1:48 scale and want to raise the fidelity of the model without interfering with its structure. Working with printed resin parts calls for a little experience and patience, but the result shows at first glance.

This is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. The printed parts are fragile, so protect your airways and eyes when sanding and cutting.

FAQ

It is not. It is a detail accessory, separate 3D printed exhaust stubs. The plastic Fw 190D-9 kit is not included in the package and has to be bought separately.

For the Fw 190D-9 kit in 1:48 scale from MiniArt. The parts may generally suit other kits, but the fit is not guaranteed.

Super glue based on cyanoacrylate. Classic plastic cement, which works by melting the material, does not take on resin from a 3D print.

Yes. Separate them carefully from the print supports, wash them in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Only then prime and paint them.
