Aires 1:48 F-16 C/D Block 30/40/50/70 - exhaust nozzle in the open position is a resin replacement for the nozzle on a model of the fighter. It is not a model of the airplane, but a detailed accessory for its tail end.

This resin set replaces the exhaust nozzle on a model of the F-16 C/D in 1:48 scale and, according to the name, it is intended for blocks 30, 40, 50 and 70. The nozzle is cast in the open, that is the spread position. The manufacturer is the Czech firm Aires, which has long specialized in this type of accessory. The set is installed in place of the plastic parts and is not a model in its own right.
The tail end of a fighter is one of the few places a viewer of a model always looks at, and a plastic nozzle usually sells it badly. In an injection mold it is not possible to have a thin wall, crisp edges on the petals and a visible internal structure all at once, so the part looks massive and, seen from behind, hollow in the wrong way. A resin casting is made by a different technology and takes fine edges and an intricate interior. The open position of the nozzle also matches a machine parked with its engine shut down, which is the situation a model is presented in most often, whether on a display stand or in a diorama.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water and cut the casting blocks off with a saw. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. Before you fix the nozzle in place, try it dry where it joins the fuselage so that it sits on the same axis and does not lean to one side. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Do the painting separately while the part is still loose in your hand: the inside of the nozzle is usually built up on metallic shades with traces of heat stress, the outer petals on a lighter tone that shades toward the darker tail end. Grading the scorching toward the mouth does more for the result than any other treatment.
The set is supplied unpainted, as resin castings for altering a model. Paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
