About product

F-16C wheel bays and legs, 1:48, 3D-printed (Eduard, for Tamiya kits)

This is not an aircraft kit, but a detail set for a model you have already bought. It includes the nose and main wheel bays along with the landing-gear legs, made by direct 3D printing; the parts replace the corresponding plastic moldings. Designed for the Tamiya kit in 1:48 scale. This is the standard version — the manufacturer also offers a heavyweight variant for the same kit, so check which one you are getting.

Why the bays are replaced

A wheel bay is actually a deep cavity full of pipes, wiring, and rivets. Injection-molded plastic cannot reproduce that — the mold has to be able to come apart, so the bay in a kit tends to be flat and empty. 3D printing needs no mold and can manage real depth along with a tangle of detail. And the bay is not hidden: the model stands on its landing gear, and the viewer looks into it from below and from the side.

The landing gear legs

Resin 3D printing lets the legs be made thinner and sharper than plastic. It is also stiffer, so it can carry the model's weight — a soft plastic leg is prone to sagging in a display case after a few years.

Building tips

Resin does not glue with plastic cement — it has no effect on it. Use cyanoacrylate (super glue); for stressed joints, such as the legs, two-part epoxy is the safer choice. Wash the parts in warm water with dish soap before painting. Cut off the remaining print supports and sand the spot wet — resin dust is hazardous to health. Spray the bays and highlight them with a wash before closing the fuselage; you cannot reach them afterward.

Who the set is for

  • For modelers building the F-16C from Tamiya in 1:48 scale.
  • For anyone bothered by an empty plastic bay under a finished model.
  • For intermediate modelers — resin needs a different glue and process than plastic.
  • For competition builds, where the model is also examined from below.

The set of 3D-printed parts is not a kit. It does not include plastic parts, paints, or glue — the base model must be purchased separately.

FAQ

No. This is a set of 3D-printed replacement parts for an already purchased F-16C kit from Tamiya in 1:48 scale.

Definitely not plastic cement — it has no effect on resin. Use cyanoacrylate (super glue); for the landing-gear legs, which carry the model's weight, two-part epoxy is the safer choice.

Injection-molded plastic has to come out of a mold, so the bay tends to be shallow and empty. 3D printing needs no mold and can manage real depth, along with pipes and wiring, in a single piece.

It is the base version of the set. The manufacturer also releases a second variant for the same kit, labeled heavyweight — check which one you want before buying.
