A set of self-adhesive masking templates from the Czech brand New Ware in 1:48 scale, intended for kits of the F/A-18C Hornet from the maker Kinetic. It is not a kit but an accessory for painting. The masks are machine-cut from kabuki material (a fine Japanese masking paper), which fits the shape of the canopy frames exactly and adheres even to curved surfaces. That does away with the laborious laying of strips of tape, and the result is clean glass and sharp, straight frames.

The BASIC version is the entry variant: it holds masks for the canopy itself (and for any further clear parts), not a set for the wheels and other details like the fuller EXPERT version. For a modeler who mainly needs to deal with the glazing it is a quick choice that covers the essentials.

Use

• The masks are designed for the glazing of the Kinetic kit; on kits from other makers (Eduard, for example) the shapes will not fit.
• Lift the individual pieces off the sheet with tweezers or the point of a scalpel and press them onto clean, degreased glass.
• Press the edges down gently with a toothpick, so that paint cannot seep under the mask.
• Spray thin coats and lift the mask off while the paint has not yet fully cured, as the edge will be sharper.

For a builder of the Kinetic Hornet who wants perfectly painted canopy frames with no hand masking. The F/A-18C Hornet kit itself and paints for the camouflage go well with it.
